EVENDALE, Ohio – KDM P.O.P. Solutions group recently announced a $3,000 donation to the American Heart Association in honor of a recently retired employee who died of a heart attack.
When Bob Mullins of Batavia worked at KDM P.O.P. Solutions Group his colleagues spoke highly of his work ethic and sense of humor. He retired in October of 2009. Then on Jan. 25, 2010 at age 64, Mullins had a heart attack unexpectedly and died. His co-workers started a fundraising campaign to remember him.
“We receive calls from a lot of companies looking for ways to involve their employees or support our organization. But these kinds of events are special,” said Missy Ford, the Heart Walk director for the American Heart Association, Great Rivers Affiliate. “I’m glad to be able to share in this, give our condolences and let Mr. Mullins’ colleagues know that these resources are going to fight the disease.”
Recently, Mullins’ co-workers gathered at KDM for an event to deliver the donation. Ford explained that every dollar donated to the American Heart Association results in $1.10 in funds allocated to research, education and advocacy efforts in Greater Cincinnati. Mullins’ widow, Lynn, attended and heard co-workers speak about their experiences with him and how much he is missed.
“It’s fantastic to be here. The donation to the heart association is just wonderful,” said Lynn Mullins, of Batavia. “Everyone really appreciated Bob’s work here. To have him pass so suddenly was hard, and I really appreciate the donation in his name.”
Bob Kissel, president of KDM, explained that the employees at the company value each other. They voted KDM one of the Cincinnati Business Courier’s Best Places to Work in 2009.
“We’re a family-owned company and we treat each other like family,” he said. “As a company, we invest in people and their development, and as co-workers we invest in genuine relationships with each other. The loss was felt by a lot of people, and this fundraiser gave people a way to respond to that.”
